Welcome to Global Indiana: A Consortium for International Exchange! For the past seven years this organization has provided international study and travel opportunities to school administrators and teachers of public, private, and charter schools. From a cadre of educators who traveled to China together in 2006 came an incorporated, 501 (c) (3) nonprofit entity with more than 350 members and supporters. Our vision is as follows: To strengthen the relationships between Indiana and other world cultures through an exchange of people, ideas, and resources. To fulfill this mission, GI creates school-to-school partnerships in other countries. Global Indiana has organized ten trips to China and one to Germany. We continue to work with both government and private connections in Ecuador, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Turkey, Liberia, and other countries with the goal of creating partners in those places as well.
The board of Global Indiana invites you to explore our website to learn about our programs, both existing and planned. If you are an educator and are interested in international study and travel, please contact our office. Our executive director, Phil Boley, is available any time on his cell phone. 317-370-5767.
State Superintendent Glenda Ritz signs MOU between the Indiana and Zhejiang Departments of Education
On Monday, October 14th, during a mission jointly sponsored by Global Indiana, the Chinese Education Connection, and the Indiana Department of Education Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, Glenda Ritz, signed a historic memo in concert with her counterpart in Zhejiang Province, Indiana’s sister state in China.
Seven school superintendents from Indiana, upon entering the auditorium, were greeted with a huge sign draped across the back of the stage. Mostly in Chinese, it also proclaimed in English, “Zhejiang-Indiana Basic Education Forum.” That was the scene at Huzhou (pronounced who-zhō) High School where State Superintendent Glenda Ritz and six other members of her delegation spoke through translators to about 150 Chinese principals.

"The importance of international exchanges in today's global marketplace of ideas and business cannot be understated. Having the opportunity to live and study in another country, or hosting someone from another country, has the profound effect of reminding us that America is not the only country out there."
